The Lynn Youth Soccer Board of Directors voted to award the 2014-2015 Michael J. Conlon Memorial Scholarship Awards to Erik Whitcomb and Brooke Miles.  Both are graduating High School this spring and will be attending college next fall.  The Board of Directors feels both exemplified leadership qualities both on and off the field during their years as Lynn Youth Soccer players, much as Michael did. Michael was a Lynn Youth Soccer player before attending Babson College.  Tragically, he was killed in a car accident his junior year.

Each recipient will receive a check for $500 to help with their college expenses and have their names engraved on our perpetual plaque adorning the walls of our clubhouse.

Both recipients have been Lynn Youth Soccer players since age 5, were referees in our Intramural Program, helped coach their younger sisters’ teams, and volunteered at our Memorial Day Tournaments.  They both played on LYS teams that won ECYSA Championships at Pingree and competed in the Massachusetts Tournament of Champions.  Erik is now a Nationally Certified Referee and Brooke has served as the LYS Intramural Referee Assignor and Trainer.  They both are standout scholar athletes in high school and hope to continue their efforts in college.

Erik Whitcomb was a CCL, Lynn Item, and Boston Globe All Star keeper for the St Mary’s boys soccer team that reached the MIAA Semifinals this fall.  In the spirit of the Conlon family, he is also a standout swimmer and will compete in swimming in college.  He will be attending George Washington College in Chestertown, Maryland.

Brooke Miles is her Class President and served as a 2 year captain of the Essex Technical High School girls soccer team that also earned a trip to the MIAA Semifinals.  She was recently invited to play in the Agganis Classic All Star Soccer Game.  She has earned appointment to the Massachusetts Maritime Academy in Buzzards Bay Massachusetts, where she plans to compete in soccer.

LYS thanks the Conlon Family for their generosity and allowing Lynn Youth Soccer to honor these deserving award winners in the name of their son Michael.
